Qualifying:
You qualify for the Ryder Cup (see the official
site) by winning one of the 4 majors. Everyone competes in
one group. There are no sections like in the majors.
Tournament
Format: On Friday and Saturday, the Ryder Cup matches are foursomes
and fourball matches each day (paired two man teams). On Sunday, there
are 12 singles matches.
Your Picks:
Pick either the US or European team. Then pick players ONLY on the
team that you have selected. You have 12 points to apportion among
your 12 man team anyway you want (using whole numbers). You select
your players for the entire Ryder Cup tournament. Picks must be in
by 11:30 p.m. on the Thursday before the competition. (The competition
is held on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.) Send your picks to the
Commissioner.
Scoring:
In the Friday and Saturday matches (fourball and foursome matches),
you win or lose your weighting on each player you have chosen for
any matches won or lost by that player. In the Sunday matches (singles
matches), you win or lose DOUBLE the weighting for a win or loss.
If your player ties (halves) a match, or the player doesn’t play in
a match, it is worth zero. In addition, if
your team wins the Ryder Cup, you earn 6 points.
Tiebreaker
Note: If the Ryder Cup ends in a tie, last competition's winner
(Europe or the US) wins the Ryder Cup, but for purposes of our competition,
it's a tie, and the 6 points for the team's win are NOT awarded.
Scoring example:
You select David Toms for 5 points out of your total of 12 points,
and Woods for the other 7 points (totalling 12 points).
On Friday morning,
Toms doesn't play (zero) but plays and wins on Friday afternoon (+5).
You earn a total of 5 for Toms on Friday. Meanwhile,
Woods halves his Friday morning match (zero) and loses Friday afternoon
(-7), for a total of -7 on Friday.
Toms halves and
then loses his Saturday matches (zero and -5). You lose a total of
5 for Toms on Saturday. Woods wins and halves his Saturday matches,
which is worth 7.
Finally, Toms
and Woods win their Sunday matches (+10 and +14, which are double
your weightings).
Your total for
Toms for the entire tournament is +10.
(Fri = 0 + 5) + (Sat = 0 -5) + (Sun = 10) = +10
Your total for
Woods is +14.
(Fri = 0 -7) + (Sat = 7 + 0) + (Sun = 14) = +14
