As
we left the green mountains of vermont
and headed toward mystic, we made a stop first at the mohegan
sun casino. This place was spectacular, easily outclassing any atlantic
city casinos. Of course, on a saturday night it was packed, and the
table minimums for black jack were $25. Within about 20 minutes I was
up $200, but after only an hour I was out that amount. Ouch!
Having
had enough of the gambling, we went to dinner at michael
jordan's 23 sportcafe. The food and the drinks were excellent. I
went with the apple martini (complete with apple ring and cherry!) and
some delicious blackened catfish. Then we headed to mystic and checked
in at the inn at mystic overlooking the harbor. The next morning, we
wanted to see a bit of newport,
rhode island before exploring mystic.
After
newport, we returned to historic mystic
seaport. It was almost dark, and the historic ships and village
cost $17 to tour (even though some of the seaport was closing in 15
minutes!), so we decided to skip it (although I did sneak down near
the ships for some pictures). Our last
stop before heading home was dinner at the seamen's
inne restaurant. This was another excellent place, complete with
clam chowder (new england
style, of course!) and some hearty dinners.
And then we drove
about 5 hours in bumper to bumper traffic in the pouring rain, home
to new jersey.
