Our
first stop on our new england journey was plymouth. We
checked in wednesday night at the governor
bradford motel, which is right on plymouth harbor about a block
from plymouth rock and the mayflower II (which is a replica of the original
ship). It was late enough, and the ride was long enough, for us to hang
in for the night.
Thanksgiving
morning we found a very good gourmet coffee shop on main street (whose
name escapes me), and then we went down to the harbor to check out the
rock, the boat, and to follow the pilgrim parade up the hill (see my
short mpg video of the parade
here!). Then we had our thanksgiving dinner at the nearby hearth
n kettle restaurant in the john carver inn. It was good but nothing special. (We wanted
to go to plimoth plantation [sic]
for the official dinner, but they were already fully booked.) After
dinner we took a long walk around town, where there are many historical
buildings and statues. We also took a ride out on cape cod, going as
far as hyannis port (about one-third of the way on the cape) and through
mashpee, where descendants of the original indians still live.
Friday
morning we went back to the coffee shop, stopped in at ocean
spray's cranberry world. It's a $2 fee, but you get lots of free
juice! Unfortunately, they no longer make cran blueberry, one of my
all time favorite flavors. Oh well. (Note: Also unfortunately, cranberry world seems to have closed or moved.) We then headed north to new
hampshire
