We
finally made it to maine in october 2002. On our way up,
we stopped for dinner in downtown portsmouth, nh. This new england coastal
town looked like fun, with lots of folks out and about on a saturday
night. We tried to get a table at jumpin'
jay's fish cafe, but the wait was too long, so the hostess sent
us next door to radici, a new italian restaurant by the same owner (read
a review). I had the wild
mushroom and ricotta cannelloni with asiago cream sauce. Tremendous!
Although I thought
for sure I would have some lobster and see some moose in maine, we didn't
travel along the maine coast or have any seafood. And the closest we
came to any moose were the roadside signs warning us about them. Oh
well, here are some moose
watching tips if you're ever in maine.
We
did travel north of augusta and take a fall
foliage tour route (click here for
a map and the exact route) that was recommended on the state's visit
maine website. It was a long drive, but did take us into some beautiful
country. Unfortunately, we had heavy rains at times on the drive, making
it hard to walk around and experience some of the sites close up.
After taking the
foliage tour, we headed south to boston and connecticut
