As
we left maine, we
headed south to boston for the boston beer works. We've been here a
number of times, and always order the blueberry beer. This was the first
time that I had dinner here, sampling the excellent chilean sea bass.
From
boston, we headed south to foxwoods
resort and casino in connecticut. We stayed at one of their three hotels,
the two trees inn. The reservations were all screwed up, and after haggling
for 20 minutes, they agreed to give us a room at a reduced rate. But
when we checked out, the rate wasn't as low as promised, and the morning
clerk didn't know anything about the night clerk's promises from two
days ago. Needless to say, we won't be going back.
Although
foxwoods claims to be the biggest casino in the USA, it's rather ordinary
in appearance. In my opinion, mohegan
sun is still the premier casino on the east coast. So the next day,
we headed on over. We had lunch at fidelia's,
and I had the shrimp and pork dumplings. Not bad. Then I hit the tables
and took some cash away from the casino!
After
having our fill at the casino, we headed down to mystic seaport, which
we had explored briefly last year. We
caught a movie (the banger
sisters) which was better than I could possibly have hoped for.
Then we headed into downtown mystic for some pizza at mystic
pizza, made famous by the 1988
movie of the same name. We had garlic and spinach as toppings, and
the waitress told us garlic was an excellent choice! The pizza was delicious,
something along the style of pizza hut crust, but much fresher and tastier.
The
next morning we left connecticut, but not before having potato pancakes
for breakfast at rosie's around the clock grill. I had mine with both apple sauce and
sour cream! (Unfortunately, rosie's has since closed. Read the story.)
The drive back to
nj was fairly smooth, with no big traffic jams like we normally experience
on interstate 95 in connecticut.
