2006 Playoff Skinny

There's nothing like the playoffs! The NFL second season starts again. First let's review our preseason predictions.

The NFC
In the NFC, which stands for "Not For Contenders," I had Eli's coming Giants to finish strong behind the Eagles. Well as TO goes so go the Eagles. And how good was seeing the cowgirls losing out to the Deadskins? Way to go Bill Parcells, time to look closer at the home in Florida. By the way Jimmy, how 'bout dem Cowboys!

In the Central I had the Pack and the Vikes, in the South the Panthers, and the West the Seahawks. In the words of Meat Loaf, "three out of four ain't bad." Or was it two out of three? Whatever. [Editor's Note: How about one out of four?] The bottom line is who comes out on top. I see the Seahawks with home field advantage being there in the NFC championship game vs. the Panthers — and the winner is the Panthers. Jake the Snake tries to redeem himself in the Super Bowl from two years ago.

The AFC
In the AFC, a la the real conference, let's review again. I had the Pats, the Bolts/ Chargers, Colts, and Steelers. [Editor's Note: No, you had the Ravens!] Well, two out of four ain't bad either! Did Yogi Berra say that? In any case with the Colts coming off a heartbreaking season losing to the Bolts, and Coach Dungy losing his 18 year old son to suicide, I have to go with them playing the high flying Broncos from Mile High for the AFC Championship. The Broncs' zoo is full of caged players eager to get back at the drubbing they took from the Colts in last year's first round game, but to no avail. Colts win by 9 over the Broncos and then beat the Panthers by 29 in the Super Bowl.

My Pats showed a lot of moxie in gaming the AFC East over the Fish. With players going to free agency and losing both coordinators, coach Belichick deserves coach of the year. But he would trade it all in for a first ever in NFL history: Three straight Super Bowls. Go Pats in '06. Just like the Democrats in the midterms in November. [Editor's Note: I guess the point is, just like the Pats are not going to win three straight Super Bowls, the Democrats aren't going to make much of a showing in the 2006 midterms!]

Well there you have it. See you in September. Hey, was that a song by the Four Seasons?
