Note
to Our Fans
The Pigskin Picks game, which has been a staple of Martytown from
the beginning and even existed earlier in an email form
has been suspended for the 2007 season due to lack of interest. We are,
however, playing fantasy football
on Yahoo for the second year. Stay tuned for further developments.
The Commissioner
Fee
The entrance fee is $15. Each wrong answer in weeks 1 through 10 costs
an additional $5. You don't pay for wrong answers starting in week 11,
but they do eliminate you from the game.
Picking
Teams
You pick 1, 2, or 3 teams each week to either win or lose (based on
the schedule below). You can only pick each team once during the regular
season. (Every week there will be a list of what teams you have left
to pick from.) Picks must be e-mailed
each week by Thursday and will be posted on this site by Friday. If
there are games played on a Thursday for any given week and you want
to pick a team in that game, you must e-mail that pick by Wednesday.
If you fail to submit
a pick in any week, you will get the next team(s) in alpha city order
that you haven't yet picked, to win. (If the next two teams play each
other, you get the first one in alpha order and the next legal pick
available.) If you send your pick and don't indicate whether you want
a team to win or lose, you get that team to win. If you pick a team
to win or lose, and the game ends in a tie, that's a wrong answer. You
can pick both teams in the same game (one to win and one to lose). You
cannot pick both teams to win or lose the same game.
First
10 Weeks
You pick 2 teams per week for weeks 1 through 5. Pick 3 teams
per week for weeks 6 through 10. Each wrong answer in weeks 1 through
10 costs an additional $5. After week 10, you will have made 25 picks.
Sudden
Death
Starting with games of week 11 (Sunday, Nov. 18), it's sudden death
elimination. A wrong answer eliminates you from the game. If you are
left with a team that you must pick and that team has a bye, that also
eliminates you from the game. Pick only 1 team per week for weeks
11 through 17. If you make it through week 17, you will have picked
each of the 32 teams once.
Winning
The last player standing in sudden death is the winner.
Tiebreakers
If all remaining players are eliminated on the same week, those players
continue to play the following week under the same rules as if they
were not eliminated. If there are still 2 or more players remaining
at the end of the regular season, they will pick week by week the winners
of all playoff games until there is a winner. Playoff games will count
for elimination game by game (not total weekend record). In other
words, a Saturday afternoon game counts first. If a player loses that
game, he is eliminated regardless of how he does the rest of the weekend.
If players are still tied entering the Super Bowl, players pick the
winner and the total points scored (both teams). Total points will be
used as the final tiebreaker if picking the team doesn't decide the
winner.
