For a long time, I mostly ignored the southeast. It was someplace
to drive through on the way to florida or elsewhere. But of course,
I was wrong to do so. In recent years, I've discovered lots of cool
places in virginia, north
carolina, south carolina,
and georgia, and I have more places
(and states) to see! So let's recap:
In 2001, I explored
for the first time the coastal cities of savannah
and charleston. These
are two jewels that are absolute must sees.
In 2003, I continued
with the coastal theme, visiting north carolina's outer
banks for the very first time. This is one of the best beaches I've
experienced.
For thanksgiving
in both 2004 and 2006,
we traveled down to virginia to visit the homes of washington
and jefferson at mount vernon
and monticello, respectively. Very civilized!
And then in the
spring of 2008, I had masters
golf tickets. We turned our trip into a mini "tour of the south"
with stops in charleston,
savannah, columbia,
raleigh, and richmond.
