It was a short 2 hour drive north
to charleston, south carolina after we left savannah.
We were actually staying north of the city at the wild
dunes resort on the isle of palms. We checked out the beach and
ocean, but it was a little too cool for getting wet. We had lunch at
benito's pizza joint, which looked like a chain. I asked, and was told
this was their fourth location! It was pretty good chain style italian
food. At night
we headed into town and stopped in at charleston chops, a nifty restaurant
with a piano bar up front. I had delicious sirloin tips (see my around
town pics).
On monday, we
headed over to the family
circle cup tennis tournament, which was being played for the first
time here in charleston (having previously been in hilton head). The
only good match on opening day was jelena dokic against 1997 french
open champion iva majoli (see my family
circle cup pics). Jelena lost and was not in an autograph
mood after the first round ouster. Her dad was nowhere to be found either!
For
the afternoon, we headed outside of town to visit an authentic civil
war era plantation named magnolia.
It was okay, but smaller than I would have imagined. For dinner we headed
once again into town, and ended up at an irish place named tommy
condon's. I had a half and half and then a black and tan with my
meal!
Tuesday morning
was a quick breakfast stop at the atlanta
bread company (great muffins and coffee) and then we caught our
flight back home from the charleston airport.
