After
driving through a very rainy virginia,
things eased up in south carolina. And it's a good thing too, since
charleston has become one of my favorite towns. On saturday night we
had dinner at the noisy
oyster while watching the NCAA semi finals. They had some tremendous
she crab soup, which was a creamy bisque, and the blackened grouper
was pretty good too.
After
dinner, we headed over to the southend
brewery and smokehouse afterwards. I tried their wheat beer with
an orange, which is the kick I've been on lately. It was good but not
great, and we were pretty tired, so we called it a night.
On
sunday morning, we barely made mass at the cathedral
of st. john the baptist, (see my pic)
and then signed up for the boat ride over to fort
sumter national monument (see my fort
sumter pics). Afterwards we took a ride around town,
including a tour of the citadel
grounds (see my charleston
pics) and then had brunch at the hominy
grill. This out of the way restaurant is just fantastic, and I can't
wait to try it for dinner next time.
Finally we headed
out of south carolina for a few hours to savannah,
but soon enough we were back in the palmetto state for sunday night
in columbia. On monday morning I took a quick tour of the lush capitol
grounds (see my columbia
pics) before we headed south towards augusta, georgia
and the masters
tournament.
