For thanksgiving 2004, we decided to head south rather than
north. Our choice was mount vernon, virginia.

We drove down on wednesday night and stayed at a nice hotel right in
old town alexandria, the holiday inn select (which has since changed
hands), and had dinner at the fish
market, one of my old haunts where they serve draft beer in 32 oz.
schooners!

Just 10 minutes south of alexandria, we toured george washington's mount
vernon estate (check out my mount
vernon pics) on a rainy and windy thanksgiving day. Then
we had thanksgiving dinner with all the trimmings (buffet style) at
the mount vernon inn adjacent to the gift shop.
We
were pretty much finished for the night, but we did stop in for a pint
of guinness at another one of my old stomping grounds, pat
troy's ireland's own. They will be celebrating their 25th anniversary
in january, which means I was there just when the place was brand new.
Unbelievable.

On friday I headed into washington
DC to check out some lesser
known sites that I hadn't ever visited, had lunch on capital hill
at bullfeathers, and then it was on to annapolis.
