We
left the DC/virginia
area and arrived in downtown annapolis and checked in at our hotel,
right on state circle (which has the state capital in the middle). We
had dinner overlooking the harbor lights at the chart
house. After hours we tried some smithwicks irish ale (made by guinness)
at the castlebay irish pub.
saturday,
november 27
After breakfast, we headed to the u.s.
naval academy for a guided tour of the campus (see my annapolis
pics). It was a brisk walk through one of the sports
facilities (where we saw lots of roger staubach and david robinson awards
and trophies), past the officers' row of stately homes, over to the
dormitory building, and finally to the beautiful chapel.
For
dinner I had excellent lump crabmeat and shrimp at phillips
annapolis harbor. Late night, in the pouring rain, we ran around
the corner from our hotel for a guinness at another irish pub called
galway bay. The bartender
did a very slow pour and let it settle a long time, then poured more
and let it settle again. Being from new jersey, and not in a particularly
laid back mood, I picked it up from the bar probably before he was ready
to serve it to me!
sunday, november 28
We had a old fashioned diner style breakfast at chick
and ruth's delly and went to mass at the naval academy's chapel.
Afterwards we checked out the naval academy museum whicha has lots of
john paul jones artifacts and a huge collection of model ships. Then
we packed up and headed north. We stopped for lunch at w.t. smithers
in dover, delaware and I also got a picture
of the state capital there. There wasn't much going on
in dover on a sunday afternoon, so after lunch we headed home.
