We
slipped into western nevada during our trip to northern
california in may 2002. It's a pretty desolate area. Lots of
mountains and rocks, and not too many trees. Our first stop was the capital
city, carson city. It was a nice, small town, with a small capitol building
too! We also discovered that we were on the kit
carson trail, (which is what that horseshoe marker picture is on
the right).
About 10 miles away
was virginia city,
which was the setting for the town in the tv show "bonanza".
The town is still preserved in its wild west look, although it has a
number of ticky tack souvenir shops and the like.
From there we continued
north to reno, "the biggest little city in the world", which
I've wanted to visit since johnny
cash wrote "folsom prison blues" (I shot a man in reno,
just to watch him die). I took my biggest hit here at the circus
circus casino downtown.
Feeling humbled,
we hightailed it out of nevada and back to lake tahoe and our northern
california tour.
