friday
night, july 13
We drove down to ocean city and checked in at the quality inn on 54th st.
Then we had a crabcake dinner across the street at hall's.
saturday,
july 14
We started the day with breakfast at a diner type place owned by a guy
named martin. I found this out when I ordered "martin's delight"
(see my pic)
the house specialty waffle with hot apples and whipped cream. You know
I had to try it! (The waitress turned out to be martin's wife, and martin
was the guy taking names at the door. When I had given him my name,
he said "that's an easy one to remember" but never explained
why.)
Anyway,
after breakfast we went to the beach for a few hours, and then headed
south on the main drag to phillip's
seafood house. I tried the sauteed crabs in butter and garlic, and
they were delicious.
We
checked out the southern part of the island just to see where the boardwalk
is (from 1st to 28th street). We walked around the area and checked
out one of the amusement parks, but it was mostly kiddie rides and disappointing.
After resting a bit, we went to a retro style mcdonalds (click here
for the pic). I watched the running of the bulls on t.v. at the hotel's
atrium bar later that night.

sunday,
july 15
We
drove north of the causeway on sunday and checked out the high rise
district, and settled on breakfast at the bayside
skillet, which specializes in omelettes and crepes. I tried the
honey lemon crepes. Then it was back to the beach and some wave hopping.
For lunch we went to dumser's
drive-in, which was an ice cream stand and hamburger joint that
has been in o.c. since 1939.
For dinner, we went
in search of a real crab crackin' place, and settled on hooper's
crab house just across the southern causeway on the mainland. I
chickened out and went for the crabcakes, which were okay but not great.
Overall, the place seemed a little too much like a tourist trap.
monday,
july 16
We headed out of town and over to annapolis for a quick harbor tour
by boat (including a glimpse of the naval
academy) and lunch at another crab place, buddy's, right on main
street. The crabcakes here had too much mayo in them, and were the most
disappointing on the trip. And then we made the drive back north.
