I'm a big Johnny Cash fan. In this movie, Joaquin Phoenix is spot on as the young Cash, with Reese Witherspoon as the woman he pursues, June Carter, even though both are (initially) married. It's a great movie centered around his long courtship of June, which everyone knows was eventually successful. And it's also a great look at the beginnings of rock n roll, with Johnny playing gigs and raising hell with Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis, and others, the weariness of always being on the road, and some of the pitfalls that came along the way. We even get a glimpse of his great gamble to resurrect his career and play a live show inside San Quentin Prison. The rest, they say, is history.

But in the end, it's a great and true love story. As a bonus, Joaquin and Reese did their own singing (released on the soundtrack) and they are excellent. This is without a doubt My Movie of the Year.
