This is Bogie at his best! The Treasure of the Sierra Madre is a morality play set in the Mexican desert as three down on their luck Gringos set off in search of gold to make their fortune. Walter Huston (the father of this movie's director, John Huston) plays a wise old codger who knows something about gold, and what gold does to men. Tim Holt and Bogart join him. Gradually, the mood of the men shifts from optimism and planning for the future to distrust, every man for himself, and survival of the fittest.
