Once
upon a time, baseball was important. I would look forward
to the end of spring training and the beginning of this six month summer
marathon. But no longer. The bitter strike of 1994 that resulted in
the cancellation of the World Series was a watershed event for me. Professional
sports were no longer played for fun and enjoyment (and of course, for
lots of money). Now, it's all about the money and nothing else.
So just like the
free agent players and the carpetbagger owners, who move from city to
city in search of the every last nickel, I am a free agent fan. I change
allegiances as suits my fancy. And you know what, it's a lot more fun
this way! Why wait for your hometown team to make the playoffs once
a decade, and maybe win the world series a few times in your lifetime?
I have several teams in the playoffs every year! And a team I liked
has won the series every year since 2001. Sweet!

There still are some enjoyable things about this slow paced summer game.
I've gradually gone to some games since 1994, and I like some of the
new parks. I especially like spring training. At left are links to various
baseball photos I've taken over the years. While I don't much care for
the players or owners, I do like the old
timers. I even saw some in action in the summer of 2002. Check out
my pictures.
And when roger
clemens announced his return to the yankees in 2007, I had to check
out the scene at his AA warmup with the trenton
thunder.
Finally, just like
in football, we have johnny "prime time" maz and his picks
and pans for the season in "around the
horn".
