A mediocre
result: I went 9-6.
Finals
Results
I really really don't like the Lakers and the whole Phil Jackson
shtick. And I've always liked Reggie Miller. But who can stop
the Shaq-man? Hard to pick against them here. Lakers in 6, but
I hope I'm wrong. UNFORTUNATELY CORRECT.
3rd Round
Picks
Eastern Conference Finals: Pacers proved to be too deep against
the Sixers. We like them to also prevail over the Knicks' ugly
style of play in 6 games. EXACTLY!
Western
Conference Finals: We'll take the deeper and more versatile
Blazers in 6. ALMOST DOESN'T COUNT.
2nd Round
Picks
We were kind of beaten up in the first round, but we have a
new determination in Round 2.
West
Lakers (1) vs. Suns
(5): Suns are a perimeter team, but they will get nowhere against
The Diesel.
--- Lakers in 5. EXACTLY!
Jazz
(2) vs. Blazers (3): The Jazz are my sentimental pick out west,
but they looked awfully long in the tooth in the first round
series. Portland has too much depth and youth.
--- Blazers in 5. EXACTLY!
East
Heat (2) vs. Knicks (3): The Knicks have more talent, but the
Heat are overdue for a breakthrough in this annual war.
--- Heat in 7. ANOTHER DISASTER.
Pacers
(1) vs. Sixers (5): I'll borrow a line from Bill Lyons of the
Philadelphia Inquirer: "The Pacers aren't the same team
as last year, and neither are the Sixers."
--- Sixers in 6. IRRATIONAL EXUBERANCE.

1st Round
Picks
West
Lakers (1) vs. Kings (8): Flash doesn't count in the playoffs.
I'm no Laker fan, but the Diesel is on a mission.
--- Lakers in 3. WELL, THEY WON.
Jazz
(2) vs. Sonics (7): The Glove is worth one game, but the Jazz
are a vet'ran team that knows how to win.
--- Jazz in 4. CLOSE ENOUGH.
Blazers
(3) vs. T-Wolves (6): The Blazers have plenty of talent but
very little heart. This is Garnett's coming out party.
--- T-Wolves in 4. NOT THIS YEAR.
Spurs
(4) vs. Suns (5): The Spurs might be without Duncan in this
series, but the Suns are without Kidd, Googs, and Chapman. San
Antonio still has the Admiral and junk yard dogs like Mario
Elie, and Penny has never been money in the playoffs.
--- Spurs in 4. NO DUNCAN, NO ADVANCE.
East
Pacers (1) vs. Bucks (8): The Pacers are primed for a title
run, with the Bucks just in the way.
--- Pacers in 3. THAT WAS CLOSE!
Heat
(2) vs. Pistons (7): With Tim Hardaway hurting again, the Heat
won't go far. But they'll go farther than the first round.
--- Heat in 4. EVEN
BETTER.
Knicks
(3) vs. Raptors (6): Everyone says that the playoffs are different
than the regular season, and they are. But the Raptors have
the vet'ran leadership of Antonio Davis, Oak, and Willis to
go along with VinSanity.
--- Raptors in 5. OUCH!!!
Hornets
(4) vs. Sixers (5): Derrick Coleman has never won a playoff
series, and the Sixers want to go farther than last year. The
home court won't be decisive here.
--- Sixers in 4. EXACTLY!
