This
is a story about an average guy, Jerry Lundegaard (played
brilliantly by William H. Macy) who cooks up a scheme to kidnap his
wife and share in the ransom money to be paid by his father-in-law.
Of course, everything goes wrong, and little by little Jerry's life
falls apart. This movie has a Hitchcock feel to it, with the ever
increasing sense of chaos building up to the point of being trapped
with no way out. Set in present day Minnesota, the Coen Brothers finally
have left their period pieces behind and returned to the suspense/crime
genre where they first made an impact with Blood
Simple. While I can't quite give it my highest rating, it's
a very good movie and worth seeing more than once.
