A
great, creepy thriller about a bar owner (Dan Hedaya) who
hires a sleazy private eye (M Emmet Walsh) to murder his cheating
wife (Frances McDormand). Of course, hitmen are notoriously untrustworthy
individuals, so there's a number of plot twists and mistakes made
by all parties concerned. Even at the end of the movie, no one is
sure who can be trusted, or who is alive or dead. This is the first
(and I think, still the best) Coen Brothers movie. I haven't seen
the newly released director's cut, which shortens the length of the
supposedly drawn out original film. The original is just fine by me.
