Everyone knows that the Rolling Stones are the world's greatest rock
and roll band, and Mick Jagger
is the leader (along with glimmer twin Keith Richards) of the band.
But every once in awhile Mick ventures out with a solo album. While
these haven't been smashing successes, they've had some entertaining
songs (plus I cut him a lot of slack).
Anyway, this is
Mick's first solo effort since 1993, and it may very well be his best.
There are some big rockers like God Gave Me Everything (cowritten
by Lenny Kravitz) which has that driving Kravitz guitar sound that
we like so much. It has the mystical sounds of the title track. It
even has some good ballads that put me in a Wild Horses / Angie
frame of mind. In fact, there are no weak songs here. So while I wait
for next year's Stones' album (and tour?), Goddess will definitely
satisfy me until then. It just might be my Album
of the Year.
