I've been a big fan of the hillbilly music of Southern
Culture on the Skids (SCOTS) since their breakthrough album
Dirt Track Date in 1995. Their music is sort of a country fried
version of ZZ Top, a little bit of B52s, with maybe some Randy Newman
thrown in. I've seen them in concert a couple of times down at the
Trocadero in Philly, and they always put on a mighty fine show. And
I'll be there again on March 29 as they make their way back into town
at the Troc.
You just have
to like songs that begin with lines like "he bought himself a
peach colored leisure suit" (King of the Mountain) or
"got a bag of stale fritos" (Haw River Stomp). You
know the rest of the song is gonna be good. Yee haw! This is foot
stompin' music (with a "ballad" or two for good measure).
