I started watching the Ken Burns' PBS show on jazz
last month, and I was definitely hooked. While never a big fan of jazz, it was interesting to see how Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington and all the rest fit into the history of music in this country. Then I saw a rather short segment on Dave Brubeck (who was making a name for himself in the 40s and 50s, and is still alive today, born in 1920). They played a snippet of music that I must have heard a million times, but never knew the name: Take Five. They say that this may be the most famous jazz tune of all time. So I had to get a Brubeck album. At the record store, it turns out that all the major artists have been reissued to coincide with the Ken Burns' show. I picked up this CD. You may also recognize the very familiar tune Blue Rondo a la Turk. Check it out!
