In recent years I've become a big fan of the Beach Boys, and especially Brian Wilson, even though I didn't appreciate their sound back in the day. So when I heard that Brian Wilson was performing solo later this month at the Mann Music Center, featuring songs from the Beach Boys' album Pet Sounds, I was in. I admit I was unfamiliar with this album, so off to the record store I went.

This is just a seminal work, probably the first concept album, and the album that made albums more important than singles. It's filled with the moodiness and melancholy that is very unlike the upbeat songs we're used to from the Beach Boys, but which really defines the Brian Wilson experience. A must for any collection!
