Animated films aren't always my cup of tea, but Shrek is a very funny romp over and through lots of fairy tales. It also has sly references that kids won't get, but which make the movie fun for adults too. For example, Lord Farquaad (Lithgow) and his kingdom look a lot like Michael Eisner and Disneyworld (FYI, this movie is made by DreamWorks, headed by former Disney guy Jeffrey Katzenberg who had a bitter falling out with Eisner). But it's all in fun! Big, green Shrek (Mike Myers) with his sidekick donkey (Eddie Murphy) go on to rescue the princess (Cameron Diaz). It's an oddball match, until we learn the princess' secret. Just a great, great movie for all ages!
