Sorta like The Big Chill, I was told. For many, that would be high praise indeed. But I was wary, since although I liked The Big Chill, there have been way too many movies made since then about people who sit around and talk about their miserable lives and how things didn't work out, blah blah blah. Sometimes even these movies can be entertaining. But in the Anniversary Party, we are confronted by a group of people working on the fringes of the Hollywood movie industry, and there isn't a likable character among them. There are the obligatory interconnected relationships between the characters, there's some drugs, of course someone will almost die, and there's a lot of arguing. Who cares about any of this? I saw this movie soon after seeing A.I. Artificial Intelligence, so I feel like I'm on a losing streak. While A.I. was incredibly bad, this movie is merely boring and will soon be forgotten. Avoid!
