The
Son of Sam killings and the terror that they cast over
New York City in 1977 are an interesting premise for a movie. But
in Spike Lee's film, everything is a bit disjointed and therefore
has much less of an impact than I was expecting. The movie is "small"
in the sense that it doesn't really deal with the terror so much as
the hum-drum lives of the characters and how they are affected by
fear of the killer. But it doesn't work for me. A big disappointment.
