I've
been a big fan of the Star Wars series, especially
The Empire Strikes Back. But it seems to me that they've become
more showpieces for the special effects and weird creatures that George
Lucas can dream up, and less about the human characters that I found
so compelling in Empire (especially between Carrie Fisher's
Leia and Harrison Ford's Han Solo). Although The Phantom Menace
has some entertaining moments, every character without fail is less
fully developed than Luke, Leia, Han and Darth. It doesn't quite add
up to a film worth seeing unless you love special effects and spage
age science fiction.
