This is Stanley Kubrick's last film, and there's no doubt that he's one of the genius film makers of the century. So it's a bit of a disappointment that this is our final look at his vision. Although it features the popular Tom Cruise and one of our favorite actresses, Nicole Kidman, the movie is a bit of a puzzle. There's suspense, some unusual sexual goings on that first shock and then draw us in as voyuers, but in the end nothing really adds up. It certainly doesn't add up to a movie. And the ending is shocking in that it's hard to believe that the movie ends at this point. We're left wondering what's going on. Some apologists will say that Kubrick left it for us to figure out, but that's just an excuse for a movie that's not very satisfying.
